Esther Williams on Career and Van Johnson Films
Best part of the film. "NUTS". Not just a negative but it's impossible even to think about a surrender.
Just saw the movie. It was good. Janet Leigh was impressive in her film debut. Thank you for sharing the trailer.
The general did not say "Nuts". He actually said "Balls!", according to witnesses, but it was changed for the film because of the sensibilities of the time.
I had a girl break up with me via text message before…… my answer was “ Nuts”
Damn the beginning of her singing this song just sends hypnotism!!! No one sings better than the great Judy ❤
General McAuliffe gave a typical American reply.
What did general Mccauliffe say at Bastogne
Was Van Johnson on an early fact finding mission to prepare for "The Last Blitzkrieg" released 10 years later ? Strange role reversal casting considering his "Battleground" part.
Back in the early 1960s, I had an ROTC instructor who was a 101st veteran of Bastogne. As a result of his service there, he was permitted to wear the 101st shoulder patch on his uniform permanently.
George Murphy's expression at the German Major's reaction to 'definitely negative' LOL
The word surrender isn't in the airborne vocabulary.
When asked what "Nuts" meant, he actually said, "In plain English, it means go to hell."
the battle of the bulge was hitlers last attempt to surrender to the west, rahter than face the Red Army which was several weeks ahead of the western allies on the march to Berlin. he sought terms acceptable to the west, the west denied his efforts, the rest is History.
101st in Vietnam, A Shau valley, 1969!
Hot neighborhood, to be sure.
@@aaarauz1 Very hot, even in the shade!
Love how Holly (Van Johnson) answers the German almost as if mocking him, "Eye-a ahm een commant hehr!" 😂
Ones of favorite movies of all time.
"That's fer sure. That's for Dang sure!"
Why I oughta
Fab story with a shit production as false as a false thing . Should be done again properly without the music n dancing
A simple but great film. Americana. I first saw it aired on Public Television about 20 years ago and it was in The Good Old Summer Time. Thanks PBS for movie night.
This is an alternate take! This isn’t the version used in the movie. Where did you find this? Wow!
Met a GI in Arizona that was actually there when this happened
Note how clean shaven the Germans are contrasting to the dogfaces!
No he dies. But his ghost returns the coin to jane wyam. Hence " THE MIRICLE IN THE RAIN".
I watched this movie today on TCM, and I loved it.
One of my favorite movies!
Oh my gosh ...i love love love this beautiful movie. Mom loved Esther Williams..,& so do i .& Van Johnson 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
What does the Wright Arrow represent on Doolittle’s Flight Jacket?
A Judy stamp first! Or is there one already?
There is a nice version with Robert Goulet and Peter Falk
Robert Goulet had a wonderful voice. As does the leading Actress ( I can't remember her name. She played Truly Scrumptious, in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) That version is much better, musically
Oh, the characters. I was both happy and crying at the end.
Classic.
Amo os filme da Esther Williams rainha das Piscina bela Sereia grande nadadora rainha das flores 💜🤍❤️💙💚🌸💜🤍❤️💙💚🌺🌸💜🤍❤️💙💚🌺🌸
One of my favorites. My dad was a B-17 navigator during WWII. Met my mom in England. This, along with Destination Tokyo, are two of the best WWII movies.

There is a female sounding Ghost Voice that whispers a 2 syllable word (or is it perhaps 2 words?) at the 3:26 mark.
Amo este filme. Amo Judy Garland!
Lindo lindo filme com atriz Esther Willimas maravilhosa atriz rainha das piscina grande nadadora
Lindo filme com atriz Esther Williams.
Over and over again as she rose at MGM, Judy transitioned old, staid, but beautiful songs into what were at the time swing bangers. This one, Singing in the Rain, A Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow, Swing, Mr. Mendelssohn, Swing… it was what she did, her brand. It allowed her to connect with old audiences and new. She never forgot that lesson, singing the newest songs until her untimely demise.
Perfect movie to observe original leather bomber jackets.
Let's have a Gene Kelly stamp
Who came here because of family guy? Donnie most
Esther and Van were the ideal screen couple which was why they were teamed in so many Technicolor films. Just look at the gorgeous Esther, she was every inch THE STAR!!!
though not as ideal as Rock and Doris
